Quito has a lot to offer. On weekends, at the Feria de Exposiciones Artesanales del Parque El Ejido, on Avenida Patria y Amazonas, you will find a handicrafts market. La Casa de La Cultura Ecuatoriana , located on Avenida 6 de Diciembre and Patria, presents a gallery of modern art and works from Ecuadorian artists. Walking south, you will encounter the Alameda Park . It is surrounded by a water channel and the famous El Churo de la Alameda, a snail like construction that offers a great view of the city.
During the afternoon, visit La Mitad del Mundo, a monument to the Middle of the World (latitude 0°). There is a yellow line that divides the north and south hemispheres. One foot at each side is the typical photo you can take. In 1979, a 30 m tall monument was constructed with a museum of indigenous cultures. There is also a Planetarium with a Solar Museum , an exhibition of the French scientists that measured the quadrant during the eighteen century. It contains photos, illustrations, machinery and measurement equipment. You will also find shops of folklore and handicrafts, restaurants and an Insectarium. .
The Zoo is always a must. Located in the Guayllabamba Valley , the zoo has many mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians, and insects of Ecuador . The spectacle bear is as impressive as the Andean Condor.
