Studies of Ecuador 's wind energy potential reveled that the most appropriate place to establish energy generation projects are along the coastal region, the Galapagos Islands, and the plains along the Andes Mountains . The country's geothermal resources are also considered important. It was concluded that there is a potential to generate over 500 MW of power only in the gas reserves of the Gulf of Guayaquil .
