During the last World Cup the TRI fans gathered in Berlin to farewell their team after the defeat 1 - 0 to England . Sadness and happiness were the feelings shown by the public for this Ecuadorian team that became the 'sensation' of the World Cup after placing themselves among the 16 best teams in the world.
"Mission accomplished" was the feeling of the public and the press as their team left for Ecuador on Monday evening.
The Guayaquil-based newspaper Expreso went even further, describing the South Americans' elimination in noble terms: "A great team bids farewell." More bouquets were thrown in the direction of the squad, as the paper sought to commend, not condemn, the efforts of Suarez's men. "When they play with their soul, on an equal footing, and they lose, the players leave behind an aura of greatness in spite of the arguments." From Fifa website.
